At Hollyhedge Dental, we appreciate that childhood has been identified as the most important period in a person's 'dental life'. We've found that even when children have been to the dentist before, they often don't know what to expect when they come to see us.

That's why, on the first and all subsequent visits we take great care to provide children with full information about the visit, to help them overcome their anxieties. We firmly believe that this approach prepares the child to enter adulthood with a positive attitude towards dental health.

Children's Dentistry
Ideally your child should see a dentist at 12-18 months old, or as soon as the front teeth erupt. This will allow the dentist to identify any dietary or dental problems very early on, and to establish a 'dental home' where both you and your child will feel comfortable and where you know you can always come if a problem arises. An early intervention can help prevent more complex procedures later on.

You may also want to see a dentist early if your child has a medical condition that puts him or her at risk of having dental problems.

To ensure your child grows up to have a healthy, happy and beautiful smile, regular visits to the dentist are essential. An early visit to the dentist is a good way to learn about good oral hygiene at an early age. We recommend seeing children from about 12 months onwards. At Hollyhedge Dental we work to ensure that your child feels comfortable visiting us and enjoys their dental experience.

At Hollyhedge Dental we monitor the development from children's teeth to adult teeth and provide treatment where required. We aim to show your child that a visit to the dentist can be fun and try to ensure that your child's first dental appointment is a relaxed event. We recommend that your child visits us when young to familiarise themselves with the dental environment and its components, such as the tooth dryer, tooth counter and the mouth mirror.

Ask about fissure sealants – a quick comfortable and pain free way of protecting adult teeth. This is where a coating is applied to the chewing surface of the back teeth where decay is more likely.
